Sunset Strip Band
In late 2001, I joined an 80's metal tribute band, which was already named as "Sunset Strip". This video was filmed at a rehearsal in Feb 2002.
This band was the one bright spot in my life at that time, which had very recently just been turned completely upside-down. Not only was it right after the tragic events of Sept 11th, I was losing my career job of 14 years at Fort Monmouth, thanks to the sneaky, evil branch chief whom hated me and had just became my supervisor. I was also involved in a legal battle with my previous cover band, where the leader had cheated me out of money, unfairly terminated our contract, and on top of that, stole my intellectual property developed for the band website. And there were still several other hassles/battles going on simulataneously.
But this Sunset Strip band was the only thing that I had to look forward to each week - a really great band that was playing all of the 80's metal songs I really loved. And even though I was very sad to see this end, especially because it was mainly due to one member's sheer stupidity (to put it very mildly), I will always be grateful to everyone in that band for the positive experience, amongst so much other termoil.
This was recorded on a Sunday afternoon/evening, where we first took band pictures outside the rehearsal studio, then went inside for a nearly 4-hour rehearsal. Here it is: SunsetStrip.mpg
This is from a demo CD we made at a friend of the drummer's basement studio. The main lead guitarist had just quit, and so the second guitarist had recorded the 2 separate tracks (rhythym and lead). The lead vocals were from 2 complete takes, where I was supposed to select the better track for each line. Instead, we learned during mix-down that he had accidentally bounced them both down to a single track, and we didn't have the time to re-record it. Here it is: Motley Crue - Girls Girls Girls
